Soil

Roots

The five ROOTS which ground us are:
  • Learning through self-direction. People learn best by making their own decisions.
  • Learning is relational.
  • Learning is natural, it's happening all the time.
  • Learning is an experience. People learn more from the culture and the environment than the content they are taught.
  • Learning is a cyclical process. We use intention, creation, reflection and sharing to support personal growth.

Branches

These following BRANCHES are our guiding principles. We use these to put our ideals and theory into action:

  • Play is infinite and essential. Play is learning. It enables children to learn how to co-create boundaries, it covers maths, science, reading, writing, social interaction and so much more.
  • Agility, flexible, adaptable and simple to change.
  • Freedom and autonomy. Everyone has the opportunity to participate and we all take responsibility.
  • Culture creation. We actively co-create the social, physical and emotional safe space by working together to create agreements.
  • Transparency. We use transparency to empower and build trust. We make our learning process visible and shareable.
  • Simplicity. Keep things simple and clear. Don’t introduce unnecessary complexity.
  • Provide maximum support with minimal interference.
  • Respect and responsibility for ourselves, others, the space and the world around us.
  • Diversity of expression. We embrace multiple intelligences*, modes of expression and learning styles (visual, kinesthetic and auditory).

* IQ Intelligence quotient, EQ Emotional Intelligence, SQ Social Intelligence.
